眞子 [zhen zi]—A son of the True One, i.e. the Tathāgata; a Buddha-son, one who embodies Buddha's teaching.

真子 [zhen zi]—(zhēn zǐ) - [Technical Term] The true sons of the Tathagata (如來 [ru lai]) refer to Bodhisattvas (菩薩 [pu sa]). They are those who believe in and comply with the Dharma (法 [fa]), and are capable of inheriting the Buddha's work (佛業 [fu ye]). Furthermore, their true practice and understanding arise from the Buddha's mouth and are born from the true Dharma (正法 [zheng fa]), hence they are called true sons. The Nirvana Sutra (涅槃經 [nie pan jing]) says: "Achieving such immeasurable merits, all are the Buddha's true sons." The Commentary on the Srimala Sutra (勝鬘寶窟 [sheng man bao ku]) states: "True sons are those who believe in and comply with the Dharma, and are capable of inheriting the Buddha's work, hence they are called true sons. Also, their practice and understanding are not false, hence called true; they are born from the Buddha's mouth and from the true Dharma, hence called the Tathagata's true sons." Furthermore, according to the intent of the Abhidharma-samuccaya (攝論 [she lun]), there are five meanings for a Buddha's child (佛子 [fu zi]): first, faith as the seed; second, Prajna (般若 [ban ruo]) as the mother; third, Dhyana (禪 [chan]) as the body; fourth, forbearance (忍 [ren]) as the milk; and fifth, the Buddha as the father. Moreover, like the Sutra of Innumerable Meanings (無量義經 [wu liang yi jing]) takes all Buddhas as the father, and the Vaipulya Sutras (方等經 [fang deng jing]) take all Buddhas as the mother, giving birth to Bodhisattva children. The Commentary on the Mahavairocana Sutra (大日經疏 [da ri jing shu]) says: "Because they are born from the Tathagata's lineage and from the Buddha's body, speech, and mind, they are called true sons."
