真法供養 [zhen fa gong yang]—True Dharma Offering — [Term] This refers to the offering of the true Dharma (真實之法供養 [zhen shi zhi fa gong yang]). The Chapter on Medicine King Bodhisattva (藥王品 [yao wang pin]) of the Lotus Sutra (法華經 [fa hua jing]) states that when Medicine King Bodhisattva (藥王菩薩 [yao wang pu sa]) was formerly Bodhisattva Sarvasattvapriyadarśana (一切眾生喜見菩薩 [yi qie zhong sheng xi jian pu sa]), he burned his body as an offering (燒身供養 [shao shen gong yang]) to Tathagata Candrasuryavimalaprabhāśrī (日月淨明德如來 [ri yue jing ming de ru lai]). At that time, all Buddhas simultaneously praised him, saying: "Excellent! Excellent! Good man! This is true diligence (真精進 [zhen jing jin]); this is called a true Dharma offering to the Tathagata (如來 [ru lai])." Great Master Tiantai (天台大師 [tian tai da shi]), while practicing the Lotus Sutra Samadhi (法華三昧 [fa hua san mei]) at Samantabhadra's Bodhimaṇḍa (普賢道場 [pu xian dao chang]), suddenly attained great enlightenment upon reaching the phrase "this is true diligence."
