緣理斷九 [yuan li duan jiu]— (Yuan Li Duan Jiu) - [Term] Within the Ten Realms (十界 [shi jie]), one exclusively contemplates the truth (真理 [zhen li]) of the Buddha-recitation realm (念佛界 [nian fu jie]), thereby severing the erroneous dharmas (妄法 [wang fa]) of the other nine realms (九界 [jiu jie]). This is taught by the Tiantai Provisional Teaching (天台別教 [tian tai bie jiao]) and the Huayan Perfect Teaching (華嚴圓教 [hua yan yuan jiao]). The third volume of the Commentary on the Profound Meaning of Avalokiteshvara (觀音玄義記 [guan yin xuan yi ji]) states: "It applies to others ."
緣理斷九—【術語】於十界中,獨觀念佛界之真理,斷他九界之妄法也。天台別教,華嚴圓教之所說。觀音玄義記三曰:「通別人緣理斷九。」
