緣塵 [yuan chen]—The guṇas, qualities, or sense-data which cause the six sensations of form, sound, odour, taste, touch, and thought.

緣塵 [yuan chen]—(yuán chén) — [Terminology] Refers to the six dusts (六塵 [liu chen]), such as form (色 [se]) and sound (聲 [sheng]), which are apprehended.

The Shurangama Sutra, Volume 2, states: "Recalling from beginningless time, we have lost our original mind (本心 [ben xin]). Mistakenly recognizing conditioned objects, we discriminate illusory matters (影事 [ying shi])."

Changshui's (長水 [zhang shui]) commentary states: "To realize that the mind which perceives conditioned objects is itself an illusory matter (影事 [ying shi])."

緣塵—【術語】緣色聲等之六塵也。楞嚴經二曰:「念無始來,失卻本心。妄認緣塵,分別影事。」長水之義疏曰:「悟知緣塵之心是影事。」
