謁選 [yè xuǎn] [ye xuan]—
Officials going to the Ministry of Personnel to await selection for an official post.
From Fu Hui Quan Shu, Volume 1, Shi Shi Bu, Ye Xuan: "In the past, a certain person from Jiangning (江寧 [jiang ning]) went to the capital to await selection for an official post. My late father left him a letter saying: 'To repay debts while in office, nothing is better than embezzling money from the previous post,' which was then called a golden rule (格論 [ge lun])."
From Stories to Awaken the World, Volume 27, Jin Yu Nu Beats the Ungrateful Lover: "Before long, Mo Ji (莫稽 [mo ji]) went to await selection for an official post and was appointed as the Military Registrar of Wuwei Army (無為軍司戶 [wu wei jun si hu])."
謁選：官吏赴部應選。《福惠全書．卷一．筮仕部．謁選》：「昔江寧某都門謁選，先子貽之書曰：『官中還債，莫若任前省錢，時稱為格論。』」《喻世明言．卷二七．金玉奴棒打薄情郎》：「不一日，莫稽謁選，得授無為軍司戶。」
