腰子 [yāo zi] [yao zi]—
1. A colloquial term for the kidney (腎臟 [shen zang], shènzàng). See "kidney (腎臟 [shen zang], shènzàng)". The Scholars (儒林外史 [ru lin wai shi], Rúlín Wàishǐ), Chapter 16: "Whether it's pig kidneys (豬 [zhu], zhū yāozi) or pig stomach (豬肚子 [zhu du zi], zhū dùzi), they never stop; needless to say, medicine is also provided."
2. Courage. For example: "If you have the guts (, yāozi), come and compete!"
腰子:1.腎臟的俗稱。參見「腎臟」條。《儒林外史》第一六回:「或是豬腰子,或是豬肚子,倒也不斷;醫藥是不消說。」
2.膽量。如:「你有腰子,就來比比!」

咬字 [yǎo zì] [yao zi]—
