延命地藏菩薩 [yan ming de cang pu sa]—Yanming Dizang Bodhisattva — [Bodhisattva (菩薩 [pu sa])] As stated in the Sutra of Yanming Dizang (延命地藏經 [yan ming de cang jing]). Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva (地藏菩薩 [de cang pu sa]) possesses the virtue (德 [de]) of extending life (延命 [yan ming]), hence the name. The Sutra says: "The Buddha (佛 [fu]) told Sakra (帝釋 [di shi]): There is a Bodhisattva named Yanming Dizang Bodhisattva. Every morning, he enters various meditative absorptions (定 [ding]). He travels through the six realms (六道 [liu dao]), relieving suffering and bestowing happiness (拔苦與樂 [ba ku yu le])."
