小官人 [xiǎo guān rén] [xiao guan ren]—
A respectful term for a young man. From Chapter 2 of Water Margin (《水滸傳 [shui hu chuan]》): "Since he is the (xiǎoguānrén) of the residence, if he wishes to learn, I, your humble servant, will teach him properly, how about that?" From Volume 3, The Oil Vendor Wins the Courtesan (《醒世恆言 [xing shi heng yan]．卷三 [juan san]．賣油郎獨占花魁 [mai you lang du zhan hua kui]》), in Stories to Caution the World: "Zhu Shilao's (朱十老 [zhu shi lao]) household had a maidservant named Lanhua (蘭花 [lan hua]), who was over twenty years old and had intentionally set her sights on Young Master Zhu (朱 [zhu]), repeatedly trying to entice him." Also referred to as "小官 [xiao guan] (xiǎoguān)".
