掀髯 [xiān rán] [xian ran]—
The appearance of happily stroking one's beard (捋鬚 [lu xu]) when laughing (笑時 [xiao shi]). From the Song Dynasty (宋 [song]) poet Su Shi's (蘇軾 [su shi]) poem, "Replying to Liu Jingwen's (劉景文 [liu jing wen]) Poem with the Same Rhyme" (〈次韻劉景文見寄 [ci yun liu jing wen jian ji]〉詩 [shi]): "Upon closer inspection, all the ink strokes (落墨 [luo mo]) are as slender as a pine (松瘦 [song shou]); one can imagine him raising his beard, just like a solitary crane (鶴孤 [he gu])."
掀髯：笑時捋鬚愉快的樣子。宋．蘇軾〈次韻劉景文見寄〉詩：「細看落墨皆松瘦，想見掀髯正鶴孤。」

顯然 [xiǎn rán] [xian ran]—
1. Obvious and evident. From "Lüshi Chunqiu • Shen Ying Lan • Chong Yan" (呂氏春秋 [lu shi chun qiu]．審應覽 [shen ying lan]．重言 [zhong yan]): "I have heard that a gentleman has three expressions. A clear expression of joy is the expression for bells and drums (鐘鼓之色 [zhong gu zhi se])." From "Records of the Three Kingdoms • Book of Shu • Biography of Zhuge Liang" (三國志 [san guo zhi]．卷三五 [juan san wu]．蜀書 [shu shu]．諸葛亮傳 [zhu ge liang chuan]): "Restoring the two commanderies and establishing authority over the fierce and violent, his meritorious achievements were evident (功勛 [gong xun])."
2. Publicly. From "Guoyu • Wu Yu" (國語 [guo yu]．吳語 [wu yu]): "My lord Goujian (句踐 [ju jian]) has sent your subject Ying (郢 [ying]) to not openly present gifts and perform rituals."

A look of extreme anger. "Old Book of Tang, Biography of Wang Shuwen" (舊唐書 [jiu tang shu]．卷一三五 [juan yi san wu]．王叔文傳 [wang shu wen chuan]): "All his associates appeared pleased with themselves (自得 [zi de]), believing that there was no one else in the world."
僩然：極忿怒的樣子。《舊唐書．卷一三五．王叔文傳》：「凡其黨僩然自得，謂天下無人。」
xiàn rán: jí fèn nù de yàng zi. < jiù táng shū． juǎn yī sān wǔ． wáng shū wén chuán>: “fán qí dǎng xiàn rán zì dé, wèi tiān xià wú rén.”
