喜見城 [xi jian cheng]—The City of Joyful Sights — [Realm Name] The name of the city where Indra (帝釋 [di shi]) resides, located in the Trāyastriṃśa Heaven (忉利天 [dao li tian]) (translated as "Heaven of the Thirty-three"), on the summit of Mount Sumeru (須彌山 [xu mi shan]). The Mahāprajñāpāramitā-śāstra (智度論 [zhi du lun]), Chapter 100, states: "On the summit of the seven encircling mountains, there is the palace of the Thirty-three Heavens. This city has seven layers and is named Joyful Sights (喜見 [xi jian]). It has nine hundred ninety-nine gates, and by each gate, there are sixteen powerful blue-clad yakshas guarding the city." However, texts such as the Qishi Jing (起世经 [qi shi jing]), Xianyu Jing (贤愚经 [xian yu jing]), Dīrghāgama (长阿含经 [zhang a han jing]), Upāsaka-śīla Sūtra (优婆塞戒经 [you po sai jie jing]), Abhidharmakośa-bhāṣya (俱舍论 [ju she lun]), and Nyāyānusāra (顺正理论 [shun zheng li lun]) generally refer to it as the City of Good Sights (善见城 [shan jian cheng]), which is a discrepancy in translation. Therefore, the Abhidharmakośa-kārikā-bhāṣya commentary (俱舍论颂疏 [ju she lun song shu]), Chapter 11, states: "On the summit of the mountain, there is a palace called Sudarśana (善见 [shan jian]) (also known as the City of Joyful Sights); those who see it praise its excellence."
