無始空 [wu shi kong]—Without beginning and unreal, void without beginning, the abstract idea of 無始 [wu shi] i.e. without beginning.

無始空 [wu shi kong]—(Wúshǐ Kōng) - [術語 [shu yu] (shùyǔ)] One of the eighteen kinds of emptiness (十八空 [shi ba kong]). Inferring from the principle of cause and effect (因果 [yin guo]), all phenomena (法 [fa]) in the world (世間 [shi jian]) are truly without beginning (無始 [wu shi]). Furthermore, observing with the eye of wisdom (慧眼 [hui yan]), all phenomena are empty (空 [kong]), and the characteristic of being without beginning cannot be obtained. This is called . 無始空—【術語】十八空之一。由因果之理推之,則世間一切之法,實為無始,更以慧眼觀之,則諸法皆空,而無始之相亦不可得,此謂之無始空。見智度論三十一。
