無門宗 [wu men zong]—The Wumen School—a [lineage] (流派 [liu pai])—refers to Chan Buddhism (禪宗 [chan zong]). Wumen (無門 [wu men]) is another name for the Buddha-mind (佛心 [fu xin]). Volume 57 of the Zongjing Lu (宗鏡錄 [zong jing lu]) states: "The Lankavatara Sutra (楞伽經 [leng jia jing]) says: Among all methods of liberation (一切諸度門 [yi qie zhu du men]), the Buddha-mind is foremost. It also says: The Buddha's teaching (佛語 [fu yu]) takes the mind as its fundamental principle (心為宗 [xin wei zong]), and Wumen is the Dharma-gate (法門 [fa men]). What is meant by 'fundamental principle' (宗 [zong]) is the true abode of the mind (心實處 [xin shi chu])."
無門宗—【流派】謂禪宗也。無門乃佛心之異名。宗鏡錄五十七曰:「楞伽經云:一切諸度門,佛心為第一。又云:佛語心為宗,無門為法門。所言宗者,謂心實處。」
