五陵豪氣 [wǔ líng háo qì] [wu ling hao qi]—
A metaphor for the spirit and boldness of heroes and chivalrous figures. Yuan Dynasty, Guan Hanqing's "Butterfly Dream," Act 3: "We scholars don't have the 'Wuling Haoqi' of those who inscribed poems on bridges, and are beaten until our bodies are covered in fresh blood." Yuan Dynasty, Luo Guanzhong's "Fengyun Hui," Act 4: "Discussing heroes, there is no equal from ancient times to the present; laughing and talking, he swept away the Wu and Yue kingdoms, truly possessing three thousand 'zhang' (丈 [zhang]) of 'Wuling Haoqi'."
