聞名 [wen ming]—Wénmíng — [Technical Term] To hear the Buddha's appellation (名號 [ming hao]). The Sutra of Contemplation on Amitayus (觀無量壽經 [guan wu liang shou jing]) states: "Through the power of that Buddha's original vow (本願力 [ben yuan li]), upon hearing the name, one desires to be reborn (往生 [wang sheng]) [in the Pure Land]."

問名 [wèn míng] [wen ming]—
The second ritual in the six traditional Chinese wedding rituals (古代婚嫁六禮 [gu dai hun jia liu li]): Asking the Bride's Name. After Proposal (納采 [na cai]), the groom's family sends someone to the bride's family to inquire about the bride's name (姓名 [xing ming]) and date of birth (生年月日 [sheng nian yue ri]), which are used to divine good fortune and compatibility (合八字 [he ba zi]). The Book of Rites - The Meaning of Marriage (《禮記 [li ji].昏義 [hun yi]》) states: "Therefore, the wedding rituals include Proposal (納采 [na cai]), Asking the Bride's Name, Presenting Good Omens (納吉 [na ji]), Presenting Betrothal Gifts (納徵 [na zheng]), and Requesting the Wedding Date (請期 [qing qi])."

問名:古代婚嫁六禮中的第二禮。在納采之後,由男方派人到女家問新娘的姓名及生年月日,用來占卜吉凶、合八字。《禮記.昏義》:「是以昏禮,納采、問名、納吉、納徵、請期。」
