為首 [wèi shǒu] [wei shou]—
To take the lead, to head up. Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Chapter 50: "Five hundred swordsmen lined up on both sides, with the leading general Guan Yunchang (關雲長 [guan yun zhang])." Dream of the Red Chamber, Chapter 52: "Then he saw a servant leading twenty or thirty people with brooms and dustpans come in. When they saw Baoyu (寶玉 [bao yu]), they all stood against the wall with their hands down. Only the leading servant bowed and greeted him." Also written as "為頭 [wei tou] (wei tou)."

為首:帶頭、領頭。《三國演義》第五○回:「兩邊五百校刀手擺開,為首大將關雲長。」《紅樓夢》第五二回:「接著又見一個小廝帶著二三十個拿掃帚簸箕的人進來,見了寶玉,都順牆垂手立住,獨那為首的小廝打千兒請了一個安。」也作「為頭」。
