1) Vyavadhāna (व्यवधान).—Intervention; the word is used in connection with the intervention or occurrence of letters or phonetic units between the cause (निमित्त (nimitta)) of an operation and the operatee (विधिभाक् (vidhibhāk)); cf लोपे कृते नास्ति व्यवधानम् । स्थानिवद्भावाद् व्यवधान-मेव । (lope kṛte nāsti vyavadhānam | sthānivadbhāvād vyavadhāna-meva |) The word is used also in the sense of intervention in general, which separates the two connected things; व्यवधानं च भवति वाक्ये राज्ञ ऋद्धस्य पुरुषः (vyavadhānaṃ ca bhavati vākye rājña ṛddhasya puruṣaḥ); the word व्यवाय (vyavāya) is used in the same sense; cf. अट्कुप्वाङ्नुम्व्यवायेपि (aṭkupvāṅnumvyavāyepi);

2) Vyavadhāna.—An inserted letter or phonetic element; cf. व्यवधानः अन्त्यविकारे (vyavadhānaḥ antyavikāre) T, Pr. 185, 186.

Vyavadhāna (व्यवधान).—

1) Intervention, interposition, separation; इह समाप्तस्य सामिधेनीवाक्यस्य अस्य चोपव्ययते इति वचनस्य निविदां विधायकेन (iha samāptasya sāmidhenīvākyasya asya copavyayate iti vacanasya nividāṃ vidhāyakena) ... ग्रन्थेन व्यवधानं भवति (granthena vyavadhānaṃ bhavati) ŚB. on MS.3.1.21.

2) Obstruction, hiding from view; दृष्टं विमानव्यवधानमुक्तां पुनः सहस्रार्चिषि संनिधत्ते (dṛṣṭaṃ vimānavyavadhānamuktāṃ punaḥ sahasrārciṣi saṃnidhatte) R.13.44.

3) Concealment, disappearance.

4) A screen, partition.

5) A cover, covering; शार्दूलचर्मव्यवधान- वत्याम् (śārdūlacarmavyavadhāna- vatyām) Kumārasambhava 3.44.
