Source: Google Books: A History of Indian Logic (Buddhist Philosophy)Vyatirekin (व्यतिरेकिन्) or Vyatirekyudāharaṇa refers to a “negative” or “heterogeneous” example (udāharaṇa), according to Upāyakauśalyahṛdaya, an ancient work on the art of debate composed by Bodhisattva Nāgārjuna.—The example (udāharaṇa) is necessary to clear the reasons of a disputant and his respondent. It is of two kinds: (1) the affirmative or homogeneous example (anvayi udāharaṇa), and (2) the negative or heterogeneous example (vyatireki udāharaṇa).
