Vyābādhate (व्याबाधते) or Vyābādhati or Vyābādhayate.—also written vyāvādhati, and at least in mss. vyāvadhati, °te, vyāvahati (compare vyābā- dha, °dhika, a-vyā°; = Pali vyābādheti, byā°), oppresses, injures, violates, harms: na kaṃcit sattvaṃ vyābādhati Mahāvastu i.207.2; ii.10.12 (here vyāpādayati; as Childers and [Pali Text Society’s Pali-English Dictionary] point out, there is confusion between these two roots; compare s.v. avyābādha); iii.341.10 (here mss. vyāvahati, Senart em. vyābādhati); with gen. of personal object, na ca tasya rāgo vyāvadhiṣyate Saddharmapuṇḍarīka 419.5 (v.l. vyāvādh°; WT vyābādh°); na teṣāṃ rāgo vyāvādhiṣyati Saddharmapuṇḍarīka 481.4 (v.l. vyāvah°; WT vyābādh°); with acc. object, na cāsya kāyaṃ vyābādhate sma Lalitavistara 152.20; netrāṇi vyābādhayate mūrchāṃ ca saṃjanayati Divyāvadāna 105.12 (prose).
