Vṛttyaniyāmaka (वृत्त्यनियामक) refers to “non-occurrence-exacting” and represents one of the two types of relations (sambandha) according to the Tarkasaṃgraha.—Broadly relation (sambandha) can be divided into two types, viz.,–vṛttiniyāmaka (occurrence-exacting) and vṛttyaniyāmaka (non-occurrence-exacting). Vṛttyaniyāmaka-sambandhas are countless. Through the viśiṣṭa-jñāna (qualified knowledge), this sambandha is known. Examples: Abheda-sambandha or Tādātmya-sambandha, Vyabhicāritatva-sambandha, Vyāpakatva-sambandha and Vyāpyatva-sambandha, Pratiyogitā-sambandha, Anuyogitā-sambandha, Svarūpa-sambandha.

The Nyāya-Vaiśeṣikas accept many other Vṛttyaniyāmaka relations. These relations are: viṣayatva, viṣayitva, prakāratā, prakārita, avayavatva, svāmitva, kāryatva, kāraṇatva etc.
