Vṛddhinimitta (वृद्धिनिमित्त).—lit. cause of Vrddhi (वृद्धेर्नि-मित्तम् (vṛddherni-mittam)) such as the employment of the indicatory letter ञ् (ñ) or ण् (ṇ) in an affix or the lettter क् (k) in tad.affixes; the term is, however, found used in the sense of having in it a cause of Vrddhi, i.e. an indicatory letter ञ्, ण् (ñ, ṇ) or क् (k).; cf. वृद्धिनिमित्तस्य च तद्धितस्यारक्तविकारे (vṛddhinimittasya ca taddhitasyāraktavikāre) P. VI. 3.39. cf. वृद्धेर्निमित्तं यस्मिन्स वृद्धिनिमित्तः (vṛddhernimittaṃ yasminsa vṛddhinimittaḥ) M. Bh. on P. I. 1.1.
