vivaśī (विवशी) [or विंवशी, viṃvaśī].—f A feigned goddess, the author of all disaster and mis-hap. Ex. kiṃ sādhūṃ jātāṃ nidhāna || vivaśī yēta āḍavī ||. 2 Applied freely in abuse to women whom misfortune is supposed to betide, or whose presence occasions evil; an unlucky jade, a sorrow-working wench. Applied also to any person, thing, occurrence, or matter viewed as bringing calamity.
