Viṭhapayati (विठपयति).—(compare prec. and vithāpita; a MIndic form of caus. of Sanskrit vi-sthā, but not found recorded except in [Buddhist Hybrid Sanskrit]), fixes, effects, makes, usually with implication of something illusory and unreal; perhaps always so, the only possible exception being the first: yathā…vāyu- dhātuḥ sarvabuddhakṣetrāṇi °yati, evam eva…bodhi- sattvasyopāyakauśalyaṃ sarvabuddhadharmān °yati Kāśyapa Parivarta 32.1 (prose), perhaps with implication of magic appearance; in 32.7 (verse) read viṭhapeti or °penti (for °panti) dharmān sugatokta-m-agrān; Tibetan rnam par sgrub po; kalpanā- viṭhapitāḥ (text °yitāḥ; fashioned by fancy) sarvadharmā ajātā(ḥ)…Aṣṭasāhasrikā-prajñāpāramitā 162.1; anityāḥ…citta-viṭhapitāḥ (so read for text °yitāḥ)…sarvadharmāḥ Sādhanamālā 111.2; kāmadhātuḥ kalpito viṭhapitaḥ (text °yitaḥ, and so below) saṃdarbhitaḥ, anityo 'dhruvo…Śatasāhasrikā-prajñāpāramitā 1534.7, repeated below; sarvajñatācittotpādaś…sarvadharmadhātuṃ ca viṭhapayati Gaṇḍavyūha 504.24, makes up (as a figment out of itself).

Sanskrit, also spelled संस्कृतम् (saṃskṛtam), is an ancient language of India commonly seen as the grandmother of the Indo-European language family (even English!). Closely allied with Prakrit and Pali, Sanskrit is more exhaustive in both grammar and terms and has the most extensive collection of literature in the world, greatly surpassing its sister-languages Greek and Latin.
