viṣayīṃ (विषयीं).—ad (Loc. case of viṣaya) On the subject of; in the matter or affair of; on the business of. Originally the construction was with a noun or pronoun in the genitive case, as gharācē viṣayīṃ, yuddhācē viṣayīṃ, hyācē viṣayīṃ On the subject or business of the house &c.;--but this is antiquated. The word now appears only in composition, inflecting its fellow-member of the compound, as lagnāviṣayīṃ, ghōḍyāviṣayīṃ, hyāviṣayīṃ, tyāviṣayīṃ On the subject of marriage &c. The above may be viewed as the explication of the word; but, popularly, it is understood and applied simply as a preposition, and in the sense of Respecting, regarding, concerning, about &c. lagnāviṣayīṃ therefore may be more familiarly rendered With regard or respect to marriage; mī gharāviṣayīṃ prayatna karatōṃ I am trying or endeavoring about (the or a) house; malā paiśāviṣayīṃ icchā nāhīṃ I care not for money.
