Viṣamakarman (विषमकर्मन्) refers to the “rule of dissimilar operation”, according to the principles of Bījagaṇita (“algebra” or ‘science of calculation’), according to Gaṇita-śāstra, ancient Indian mathematics and astronomy.—The process of solving the following two particular cases of simultaneous quadratic equations was distinguished by most Hindu mathematicians by the special designation viṣamakarman (dissimilar operation): [...].—Note: The name viṣamakarman originated obviously in contradistinction to the name saṅkramaṇa.
