Vipratyayanīya (विप्रत्ययनीय).—adj. (compare Sanskrit vipratyaya, m.; Sanskrit pratyeti, Pali pacceti, but no [compound] of vi- with this verb is noted; in fact, this form is doubtless a distortion of vipratyanīka, °nīya, used in precisely such phrases, blended by folk-etymology with the noun vipratyaya), in sarvaloka-vipratyayanīyo (which all the world is reluctant to accept, Müller, [Sacred Books of the East] 49.2 p. 102) dharmo deśitaḥ Sukhāvatīvyūha 99.17.

context information

Sanskrit, also spelled संस्कृतम् (saṃskṛtam), is an ancient language of India commonly seen as the grandmother of the Indo-European language family (even English!). Closely allied with Prakrit and Pali, Sanskrit is more exhaustive in both grammar and terms and has the most extensive collection of literature in the world, greatly surpassing its sister-languages Greek and Latin.
