After the death of Rajasimha I, his successor Vimaladharmasuriya I had to flee to the province of Gova. Seemingly, Buddhist community leaders did not support the kings of Surya Vamsa. After sometime, Vimaladharmasuriya returned to Sri Lanka and killed many Buddhists. Chulavamsa states that there were no Bhikshus in the Sri Lanka during the reign of Vimaladharmasuriya I who ascended the throne in the year 2135 of BV i.e. 370 CE.
