The word has the import and force, and occurs in the vulgar applications, of the English words Clever, cunning, knowing, knavish, shrewd &c. 3 vilāyatī, signifying Foreign, is freely applied to exotics of nature and to products of art viewed, not simply as foreign, but as superexcellent, extraordinary, or remarkable; as vi0 ūsa m A kind of sugarcane; vi0 kōmbaḍā m A turkey; also a Guinea-fowl; vi0 gavata n Lucerne or Medicago sativa; vi0 canā m The garden-pea (common green pea); vi0 ciñca f A small-leaved tree, bearing a small fruit; vi0 thuvara f Slipper plant; See thuvara; vi0 dhōtarā m A variety of Thorn-apple.
