Source: archive.org: Shiva Purana - English TranslationVidyudagni (विद्युदग्नि) refers to “lightning and blazing fire”, according to the Śivapurāṇa 2.2.34. Accordingly, as Brahmā narrated to Nārada:—“[...] When Vīrabhadra set off thus, bad omens were seen by Dakṣa and the Devas. [...] Stars, brilliant like lightning and blazing fire (vidyudagni-prabhā) were seen falling. Some of them went zigzag and some fell with face downwards”.
The Purana (पुराण, purāṇas) refers to Sanskrit literature preserving ancient India’s vast cultural history, including historical legends, religious ceremonies, various arts and sciences. The eighteen mahapuranas total over 400,000 shlokas (metrical couplets) and date to at least several centuries BCE.
