It may be derived directly fr. vṛ, vṛṇāti=P. vuṇāti, as shown by vaṇimhase. A denom. fr. vani is vanīyati) to wish, desire, ask, beg J. V, 27 (spelt vaṇṇeti; C. explains as vāreti icchati); pres. med. 1st pl. vaṇimhase (=Sk. vṛṇīmahe) J. II, 137 (=icchāma C.). As vanayati at KhA 111 (vanayatī ti vanaṃ). (Page 596)
