Vatsararāmbha (वत्सरराम्भ) refers to “beginning of the new year” and represents a religious rite (pūjā) or observance (vrata) occurring in the month Caitra (March-April).—Vatsararāmbha (beginning of the new year) (Mar. guḍhi-parva) pūjā of a pole (Mar. guḍhi; Skt. brahma-dhvaja) erected on the new year’s day śukla-pratipadā.
