Vareṭikā-viṣaya was the name of a viṣaya (district) during the rule of the Śilāhāra dynasty (r. 765-1029 A.D.).—The term viṣaya designates a division of deśa (administrative unit). The deśas were divided into viṣayas in North and south Koṅkaṇ. Several viṣayas are mentioned in the records of the Śilāhāras (eg., Vareṭikāviṣaya). As very few Śilāhāra records from South Koṅkaṇ have been found, only few viṣayas from that region are Known.
