1. Rude speech, harsh word, opposed to iṉ-col; கடுஞ் சொல். எவன்கொலோ வன்சொல் வழங்குவது [kadugn sol. evankolo vansol vazhanguvathu] (திருக்குறள் [thirukkural], 99).
2. Barbarous tongue; மிலேச்ச மொழி. வன்சொல் யவனர் [milecha mozhi. vansol yavanar] (சிலப்பதிகாரம் அரும்பதவுரை [silappathigaram arumbathavurai] 28, 141).
