Source: archive.org: Puranic EncyclopediaVaṃkṣu (वंक्षु).—A river which is famous in the Purāṇas. The low-caste people who lived on the basin of this river, came to the Rājasūya (imperial consecration) of Yudhiṣṭhira. (Mahābhārata Sabhā Parva, Chapter 51, Stanza 17).
The Purana (पुराण, purāṇas) refers to Sanskrit literature preserving ancient India’s vast cultural history, including historical legends, religious ceremonies, various arts and sciences. The eighteen mahapuranas total over 400,000 shlokas (metrical couplets) and date to at least several centuries BCE.
