Source: Shodhganga: Temples and cult of Sri Rama in TamilnaduUttamar is short for Uttamarkoyil (or Bhiksantarkoyil), which refers to Karampanur, one of the 108 divyadesas according to Priyavaccan Pillai’s compendium of the Ramayana based on the Nalayirativviyappirapantam.—Karampanur is the venue of Lord Uttamapurusa. Siva is supposed to have got rid of brahmahatti, having cut the head of Brahma in this place. There is a separate chapel for Brahma.
The Purana (पुराण, purāṇas) refers to Sanskrit literature preserving ancient India’s vast cultural history, including historical legends, religious ceremonies, various arts and sciences.
