uṭhaṇēṃ (उठणें).—v i (utthāna S) To rise, to become erect. 2 To rise figuratively, corresponding with the English word through the most of its acceptations; viz. to rise upwards; to mount or ascend into the air; to grow--smoke, dust, plants: to awake and rise (from sleep, swooning, death): to rise, break up, move off--an assembly, an army: to rise from; to become disgusted with--the mind or affections: to rise against, to be insurgent: to appear plain or clear--a stamp, impression, color: to rise, arise, break forth, appear, originate, come into existence--eruptions, epidemics, troubles, rumors, events. 3 To get up, i. e. to ache--the head--ḍōī, ḍōsakēṃ-kapāḷa-mastaka-śīra: also, although of restricted currency,--dāḍha or dānta, kāna, hāta, pāya. 4 To become fresh, blooming, beaming, bright-looking-- a person, animal, plant, color. 5 To stand up against (gharāvara-manuṣyāvara) maliciously or falsely. 6 To rise;--as a bite, stripe, stroke, or dānta-chaḍī- cābūka &c. the instrument inflicting it. uṭhūna jāṇēṃ To run away, or to go off without leave. nitya uṭhūna or rōja uṭhūna With constant, daily, or regular repetition; as of daily or regular course; continually. uṭhalā ṭhāva dēvata nāhīṃ in. con. (I &c.) cannot even rise and place the leaf or dish (for the meal). Expressive of utter prostration of strength.
