utaraṇēṃ (उतरणें).—v c (uttaraṇa S) To set down or put down; to place upon the ground. 2 To set down, unload, disembark, discharge (as at the end of a journey). 3 To bring down; to assist in descending. 4 To reduce in height; to make lower or shorter. 5 To carry across; to convey over (as over a river). 6 To transcribe or copy; to sketch (a landscape); to take (a likeness); to form or frame according to a model: also to imitate, copy, mimic. 7 To abate, diminish, reduce (rates, demands). 8 To reduce in rank or station: also to lower one's pride or conceit. 9 To assuage the ardor or burning (as of poison, spirits &c.) 10 To wave (a cocoanut &c.) around the head in exorcising. 11 To cut off or out (nose, ears, tongue). 12 To cross (a ford, a river). 13 To take off, to doff (clothes, ornaments). 14 To throw over; to bring over and adown slopingly (a chappara, paḍavī, sōpā &c. . 15 To shave clean off (whiskers or beard). utarūna ṭākaṇēṃ To humble or bring down (i.e. to unbrace or relax a drum). 2 To wave (around some sick person &c.) some person, animal, or thing.
