Vyakarana (Sanskrit grammar)
Source: Wikisource: A dictionary of Sanskrit grammarŪṣmasaṃdhi (ऊष्मसंधि).—Name of a combination or संधि (saṃdhi) where a visarga is changed into a breathing (ऊष्मन् (ūṣman)). It has got two varieties named व्यापन्न (vyāpanna) where the visarga is charged into a breathing as for instance in यस्ककुभः (yaskakubhaḥ), while it is called विक्रान्त (vikrānta) (passed over) where it remains unchanged as for instance in यः ककुभः, यः पञ्च (yaḥ kakubhaḥ, yaḥ pañca); cf. R. Pr. IV. 1 1.
Vyakarana (व्याकरण, vyākaraṇa) refers to Sanskrit grammar and represents one of the six additional sciences (vedanga) to be studied along with the Vedas. Vyakarana concerns itself with the rules of Sanskrit grammar and linguistic analysis in order to establish the correct context of words and sentences.
