-kaḥ 1 (upa gauṇo nāyakaḥ) A character in a dramatic or any other work of art next in importance to the hero; (nāyakasya guṇotkarṣakathakā upanāyakāḥ); e. g. Lakṣmaṇa in Rāmāyaṅa; Makaranda in Mālatimādhava &c. &c.
