Source: Sutta: The Pali Text Society's Pali-English DictionaryUpakūsita, at J. II, 134 is perhaps faulty for °kūḷita, which is suggested by C. expln. “kukkule jhāmo” and also by v. l. °kuṭhita (for kuṭṭhita boiled, sweltering, hot). The variant (gloss) °kūjita may have the same origin, viz. °kūḷita, was however interpreted (v. l. BB.) by °kupita (meaning “shaken, disturbed by fire”). (Page 139)
Pali is the language of the Tipiṭaka, which is the sacred canon of Theravāda Buddhism and contains much of the Buddha’s speech. Closeley related to Sanskrit, both languages are used interchangeably between religions.
