Upajāpa (उपजाप).—

1) Secretly whispering into the ear or communicating; परकृत्य° (parakṛtya°) Mu.2.

2) Secret overtures or negotiations (with the enemy's friends), sowing the seeds of dissension, treachery, treason instigating to rebellion; उपजापः कृतस्तेन तानाकोपवतस्त्वयि (upajāpaḥ kṛtastena tānākopavatastvayi) Śiśupālavadha 2.99; उप- जापसहान् विलङ्घयन् स विधाता नृपतीन्मदोद्धतः (upa- jāpasahān vilaṅghayan sa vidhātā nṛpatīnmadoddhataḥ) Kirātārjunīya 2.47,16.42; अपि सहन्ते अस्मदुपजापं प्रजाः (api sahante asmadupajāpaṃ prajāḥ) Mu.2.
