Source: Journal of the University of Bombay Volume V: Apabhramsa metres (2)Upagaruḍapada (उपगरुडपद) is the name of an Apabhraṃśa metre classified as Dvipadi (metres with two lines in a stanza) discussed in books such as the Chandonuśāsana, Kavidarpaṇa, Vṛttajātisamuccaya and Svayambhūchandas.—Upagaruḍapada has 29 mātrās in a line, made up of 1 ṣaṇmātra, 5 caturmātras and 1 trimātra at the end.—The beat of the tāla occurs on the 3rd mātrā; the gap at the
end is filled up by means of a rest of 3 mātrās.
