Upādeya (उपादेय) refers to “that what is to be taken up”, according to the Manthānabhairavatantra, a vast sprawling work that belongs to a corpus of Tantric texts concerned with the worship of the goddess Kubjikā.—Accordingly, [while expounding Kaula and the Nine Kaulas]—“Free of sound and touch, devoid of what is to be taken up and abandoned (heya-upādeya-varjita), what exists and what does not, the Great Kaula, the Nameless, is free of the repetition of mantra and worship, meditation, and concentration”.
