Source: Project Gutenberg: Castes and Tribes of Southern India, Volume 11) Uluvala (“Dolichos biflorus”) is one of the many exogamous septs (division) among the Bōyas (an old fighting caste of Southern India). The Bōyas were much prized as fighting men in the stirring times of the eighteenth century .
2) Uluvala (“horse-gram”) is one of the septs (divisions) among the Jōgis (a caste of Telugu mendicants). The Jōgi mendicants go about, clad in a dirty loin-cloth (often red in colour) and a strip of cloth over the shoulders, with cobras, pythons, or rat snakes in baskets, and carrying a bag slung over the shoulder.
