Source: Pali Kanon: Pali Proper NamesA village where there was a bridge of thirty cubits, built over the Mahavalukaganga by Devappatiraja (Cv.lxxxvi.23). The village is identified with the modern Ulapane, four miles from Gampola (Cv.Trs.ii.173, n.3).
Theravāda is a major branch of Buddhism having the the Pali canon (tipitaka) as their canonical literature, which includes the vinaya-pitaka (monastic rules), the sutta-pitaka (Buddhist sermons) and the abhidhamma-pitaka (philosophy and psychology).
