ulaṭa (उलट).—m f (ulaṭaṇēṃ) Returning or return (as the rebounding of a ball); reflux (of the sea); recovery (of a beaten foe); running back, unwinding, untwisting (of a wheel or a rope wound around it, of a rope or cord); return (of a fever, a pestilence, a famine); retractation (of a promise); turning back or away from. v khā. 2 Return or requital (as of favors, injuries, courtesies). f Vomiting or a vomit. 4 In comp. Return. Ex. ulaṭaahēra Presents (of cloth &c.) made in return for presents received at a marriage or other festal occasion. ulaṭauttara A reply back, a return-answer. ulaṭa- patra A letter in reply. ulaṭabhēṭa A return-visit. ulaṭa- māna Return civilities or compliments. ulaṭamēja- yānī, ulaṭajābasāla &c. 5 In comp. 1. To originate, come into being; உண்டாதல். இலதுகாரிய முதலுளதாகுமென்னில் [undathal. ilathugariya muthalulathagumennil] (சிவஞானசித்தியார் சுபக்ஷம் [sivagnanasithiyar supagsham] 1, 7).
