It is mentioned in connection with an acute vowel following इति (iti) in the Padapāṭha, according to Kāṇva's view;cf. उदात्तमयोन्यत्र नीच एव अन्तोदान्तमध्योदात्तयोः पर्वणोरन्यत्र इति कार-णात् परो नीच उदात्तमय एव भवति प्रचित एव भवतीत्यर्थः (udāttamayonyatra nīca eva antodāntamadhyodāttayoḥ parvaṇoranyatra iti kāra-ṇāt paro nīca udāttamaya eva bhavati pracita eva bhavatītyarthaḥ) com. on V.Pr. Vyakarana (व्याकरण, vyākaraṇa) refers to Sanskrit grammar and represents one of the six additional sciences (vedanga) to be studied along with the Vedas. Vyakarana concerns itself with the rules of Sanskrit grammar and linguistic analysis in order to establish the correct context of words and sentences.
