Source: archive.org: Shiva Purana - English TranslationTyājita (त्याजित) refers to “that which was taken away”, according to the Śivapurāṇa 2.5.19 (“Jalandhara’s emissary to Śiva”).—Accordingly, as the Gaṇa said to Śiva: “O great lord, O lord of the gods, O Śiva the merciful, O deity favourable to the devotees, my prey has been taken away (tyājita). O lord, I am tormented by hunger. So I am utterly emaciated. O lord of the gods, what shall be eaten by me? Please command me, O lord”.
The Purana (पुराण, purāṇas) refers to Sanskrit literature preserving ancient India’s vast cultural history, including historical legends, religious ceremonies, various arts and sciences. The eighteen mahapuranas total over 400,000 shlokas (metrical couplets) and date to at least several centuries BCE.
