Pr. nakhānēṃ tuṭēla tyāsa kuṛhāḍa kaśāsa pāhijē. 2 To diminish or decrease; to fall short of or to become less. Ex. ōlā cārā nāhīṃsā hōtāñca gāyīcēṃ dūdha tuṭalēṃ; tyā māpānēṃ mōjūna āṇilēlēṃ hyā māpānēṃ dōna śara tuṭalē. 3 To break up; to fall to pieces; to fall asunder--an associate or a congregate body, a common concern or business: to dissolve or to be destroyed--a friendship, a tie or connection: to be disunited or separated; to become distinct or mutually estranged--persons acting jointly or subsisting in friendly relation. 4 (Or tuṭūna paḍaṇēṃ) To break out upon with abuse or vehemence. 5 To be passed, crossed, surmounted--ground, a distance. 6 To become bankrupt. 7 To decline in health; to break;--used with śarīra, prakṛti &c. 8 To be alienated;--used with mana, marjī &c. Pr. phuṭalēṃ mōtīṃ tuṭalēṃ mana sāndhūṃ na śakē vidhātā. 9 To be concluded, composed, adjusted--a dispute, a difference. 10 To be reduced--pay, troops, any established amount. 11 To be weaned. The distinction drawn under mōḍaṇēṃ between that verb and tōḍaṇēṃ holds, in so far as mōḍaṇēṃ is intransitive, between that verb and this. Consult it therefore. Whilst of mōḍaṇēṃ the sense is To BREAK, with the ever-inherent implication of Destruction of form or state, the sense of tuṭaṇēṃ is To BREAK, with the implication of Parting or separating. It may be a profitable exercise to the learner to trace out this distinction through all the senses given under both the verbs. tuṭūna paḍaṇēṃ (kāmāvara) To set to with determination and vigor:--(manuṣyāvara) To fall upon abusively or passionately.
