Source: Wikipedia: India HistoryTurpan, also known as Turfan or Tulufan, is a prefecture-level city located in the east of Xinjiang, China. Along with city-states such as Krorän (Loulan) and Kucha, Turfan appears to have been inhabited by people speaking the Indo-European Tocharian languages in prehistory.
Turpan during Kumārajīva’s time (A.D. 344-413).—Kumārajīva left Kashgar with his mother Jīvaka at age 12, and traveled to Turpan, the north-eastern limit of the kingdom of Kucha, which was home to more than 10,000 (Buddhist) monks.
