Chinese Buddhism (漢傳佛教, hanchuan fojiao) is the form of Buddhism that developed in China, blending Mahayana teachings with Daoist and Confucian thought. 後退 [hou tui] (hòutuì): To retreat; to fall back.
From Pei Songzhi's (裴松之 [pei song zhi]) commentary to the "Annals of King Fang of Qi" (齊王芳紀 [qi wang fang ji]) in "Annals of the Three Young Emperors" (三少帝紀 [san shao di ji]), "Book of Wei" (魏書 [wei shu]), Volume 4 (卷四 [juan si]) of "Records of the Three Kingdoms" (三國志 [san guo zhi]), under the phrase "以顏淵配 [yi yan yuan pei]" (yǐ Yán Yuān pèi), quoting Xi Zuochi's (習鑿齒 [xi zao chi]) "Spring and Autumn Annals of Han and Jin" (漢晉春秋 [han jin chun qiu]): "Currently, we should abandon the land south of the Huai (淮 [huai]) and Han (漢 [han]) rivers, retreat and avoid it."
退卻:後退。《三國志.卷四.魏書.三少帝紀.齊王芳紀》「以顏淵配」句下裴松之注引習鑿齒《漢晉春秋》:「當今宜捐淮、漢以南,退卻避之。」
tuì què: hòu tuì. < sān guó zhì. juǎn sì. wèi shū. sān shǎo dì jì. qí wáng fāng jì> “yǐ yán yuān pèi” jù xià péi sōng zhī zhù yǐn xí záo chǐ < hàn jìn chūn qiū>: “dāng jīn yí juān huái,, hàn yǐ nán, tuì què bì zhī.”
